Dense Medium Cyclone Upgrade Delivers Strong Early Results

‍ ‍

At Richglen, we pride ourselves on delivering complex maintenance and capital projects that help our clients improve plant performance, increase efficiency and achieve long-term operational outcomes. A recent Dense Medium Cyclone (DMC) upgrade project is a great example of how technical expertise, careful planning and collaboration across multiple disciplines can deliver measurable results.

As part of a major shutdown, Richglen successfully completed a significant upgrade across both the North and South Plants. The project included:

  • Removal of the existing Dense Medium Cyclones across both plants.

  • Structural modifications to accommodate the upgraded equipment.

  • Installation of larger cyclone units during the shutdown.

  • Close coordination between our mechanical, structural and project delivery teams.

  • Safe execution of all works within a tightly controlled shutdown schedule.

Delivering a project of this scale within a major shutdown window required detailed planning, strong communication and seamless teamwork to ensure the plant was returned to operation on schedule.

What makes this project particularly significant is the value it has delivered for our client.

Initial testing has shown the upgraded cyclones achieved the client's targeted yield recovery, allowing the plant to recover more saleable product from the coal it processes. With stronger recovery rates, the operation is positioned to maximise product output and improve overall processing performance.

The benefits don't stop there. The next stage of the project is expected to reduce magnetite consumption, helping lower operating costs while improving overall plant efficiency. Together, these outcomes have the potential to make a meaningful impact on both production performance and long-term operating costs.

This project also highlights an important part of Richglen's service offering that may not always be as visible as our mining and dragline maintenance work. Alongside these core services, Richglen has built a strong reputation for delivering complex CHPP maintenance, major shutdowns, equipment upgrades and capital works projects across the resources sector.

The Dense Medium Cyclone upgrade demonstrates our ability to bring together specialist capabilities across multiple disciplines, delivering technically complex projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard, even within demanding operational environments.

As Richglen continues to grow, projects like this reflect the direction of our business. We remain committed to investing in long-term client partnerships, expanding our specialist capabilities and delivering diversified services that help keep operations running safely, reliably and efficiently, with people at the centre of everything we do.
